Hello Rick,
The Dexter Vault isn’t an entire hub assembly, it’s actually just a high-tech replacement for a regular grease cap. It fits onto the end of the hub where you’d normally find a dust cap or standard bearing protector. What makes it special is that it contains a sealed chamber filled with temperature-sensitive oil instead of grease. So even though it looks like a regular cap on the outside, inside it’s doing a lot more to keep your bearings lubricated and cool.
You’ll want to check your spindle to see if it’s an EZ Lube type. If it is, there will be a zerk fitting at the end for applying grease. If you’ve got a 3,500 lb axle on your boat trailer, then the 2" Lubed Dust Cap & Rubber Plug # DC200L-DCRP is the one you want, the rubber plug gives you access to that zerk fitting.
Now, if you have a 3,500 lb axle with drum brakes and it’s time for a full hub assembly replacement, then the Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 3.5K Axles - 10" - 5 on 4-1/2 - Pre-Greased # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K is the way to go.
I always assume everyone has a 3,500 lb axle like I do on my Ranger boat trailer, but if your axle is rated differently, just let me know and I’ll help you track down the right parts.
So, what kind of boat do you have sitting on that trailer?

Hey Rick, Did you find out if your spindle is an EZ Lube type, and were you able to make the switch to the EZ Lube hubs? I'm curious to know how it all worked out for you, as it could really help others in a similar situation!
