Parts Needed To Add Brakes To 2033 Coastline Aluminum Boat Trailer

Published 04/30/2025

Question:

I have a 2023 Coastline aluminum boat trailer custom built for my 2012 Blazer Bay 2220 fisherman. I need to add trailer brakes if possible. It has dual 5 lug by 4.5. It looks to have torsion axles. This will be exposed to boat launches in salt/brackish water. I have pics of all of this if you need them. Do you have a kit that can be installed. My tow vehicle is a 2016 F150 with brake controller and 4 and 7 pin plug ins

Hello Ron, thanks for reaching out. I can certainly help point you in the right direction.

There are two routes we can go here. We can set you up with electric brakes. These are more cost effective, but not as durable for boat trailer applications since electricity and water do not mix well.

We can also do a hydraulic brake setup. This would be more expensive, but will be much more durable and better suited for marine use.

Do you have a preference for the brake type?

For starters we will need to make sure your torsion axle is equipped with a brake flange. I will also need to know the weight capacity of your axle as this will help to narrow down the correct hubs. If you know the weight capacity of your axle, that will help a lot to pinpoint your bearing numbers. Or if you can pull a hub and remove the bearings, we can use the bearing numbers or ID measurements to determine the correct replacements.

For example, if you have a 3,500 lb axle, you can use the # AKEBRK-35-SA brake kit and # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K hubs which is a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern.

Then you would just need a 7-way and junction box like part # e99011. Then you would just need a breakaway kit # 3802346 and whatever additional wire is needed for your brakes.

If you can let me know your axle capacity, bearing sizes and hub bolt pattern I am happy to look into it and get back to you with exactly what parts you need.

Check out the article I linked for you below and let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
