Question:

Hello,,,I am wanting to get a bike rack for my 2018 EQUINOX SUV. I know I need a hitch but not sure how this works and who installs this... So looking of what I need to purchase and who installs it... I am looking at 2 bike rack that holds about 80lbs/bike so nothing crazy...thanks.

Hi Tom; I would be happy to help you get set up to carry your bikes. All you need is a hitch for your vehicle and of course the bike rack. For your 2018 Equinox I recommend the etrailer # e59ZR. This has a simple bolt-on installation you can do yourself if you're feeling up to it.

The hitch comes with instructions but we also have an installation video you can follow which I attached below. The installation can also be performed by us if you live near Wentzville, MO or by one of our local dealers. In addition to the installation video you will find a link to a search for local installers by zip code.

At 80 lbs per bike you're actually pretty limited on options but there are some that can handle it. My recommendation is the Yakima OnRamp LX Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes # Y88DJ. This has a weight capacity right at 80 lbs per bike. It uses padded clamps so you can secure the bikes by the frame or seat post which is great for step-through designs. The best part is the integrated ramp which will make loading and unloading those heavy bikes a lot easier.

Hi Robin,,, and thanks so much for replying....Now that I really looked at things I will have 2 bikes but only 1 E-bike so considerably less weight. However when I look at my car Chevy Equinox I know I do not have any hitch or whatever you call it on it currently to contact to. So my question is do you have racks that dont require a hitch?....what would you recommend?...I am not sure if I dont have a hitch would they have to weld a piece on the frame?...thank you so much

@TomG the hitch I linked above in the original answer will work without having to weld anything onto your frame. It attaches to existing holes in the frame using 6 bolts. If you don't feel comfortable installing it the link to local installers is still down below. Even with the 1 e-bike and 1 regular bike the answer still stands. There are no trunk mounting bike racks that can support that kind of weight so adding a hitch is the only option.

@RobinH Thanks again Robin...I couldn't do the install myself but there are dealers within 10 miles or so that I can look at. These dealers are familiar with your hitch I assume? thanks again.....
