Question:

I have a 2022 Highlander XLE. I am looking for a hitch/receiver essentially for cargo basket use for road trips. I am between the C99FR and the C45CR. It is my understanding that the primary difference between these two options is tongue weight/towing capacity? I Don’t need it for towing but want to make sure I have plenty of weight capacity for this cargo basket. Also, would prefer not to do any trimming of bumper or anything else under the vehicle. Thank you!

Out of those two hitches, I recommend the Curt Hitch item # C99FR over the item # C45CR for your 2022 Toyota Highlander XLE. The tongue weight capacity for both will easily accommodate a cargo carrier but the item # C99FR has a far better profile once installed. All you'll see is the receiver and the safety chain holders. The item # C45CR leaves the entire rear crosstube exposed.

Both the Curt Hitch item # C99FR and the item # C45CR require slight trimming of the underbody panel. You won't notice this from the back of your vehicle because the piece is underneath your Toyota. Nothing will but cut on the rear bumper though.

Hey, how did the Curt hitch work out on your Highlander for your cargo basket trips? Did the small underbody trim end up being as minor as expected? Your update could make it easier for others choosing between those two hitches.
