Question:

I have a 2019 41 Montana 5th wheel trailer with two2 7k Dexter axles which when loaded for travel weights around 16650-16700 lbs, with around 13400 lbs on the axles. Mostly towed on paved primary and secondary roadways. I want to upgrade my suspension. I am looking at the Roadmaster Comfort Ride system with shocks, 8k for 3 axles, #RM-2460-2580 or the Comfort Ride shocks alone with equalizers, such as the Lippert Road Armor, #LC696740, and possibly heavier springs. I am looking for a little stronger suspension without making the ride too harsh. Currently my springs are rated at 3300 lbs per set and l have Sumo Springs for trailers installed. I would appreciate your insights and recommendations. Thank you.

Hello Jim thank you for your question. Out of the options you are considering, both will be solid suspension upgrades for your 2019 Keystone 5th wheel, especially if all of the suspension is still stock. I do really like the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit # RM-2460-2580 as the best option for this application. It will directly address both of your main concerns. The 4,000 lb rated springs will be a solid upgrade as far as weight capacity, and the comfort ride shocks combined with their equalizer system will help give you a much smoother ride with less bouncing or chucking. So you will get the spring upgrade you are looking for without making the ride too stiff.

That said, replacing the leaf springs, equalizer and adding a shock kit would also be a very nice upgrade. The Roadmaster kit does provide some additional benefits, so that will be your best bet as far as results. If you do want to look at doing new springs and a Road Armor equalizer # LC696740 we do need to make sure we keep everything identical in size to the stock suspension. Getting an eye-to-eye length from the current spring will help to narrow that down. We would also want to get the length and height of the stock equalizer. That way we can be sure everything will fit together nicely. Feel free to reach out to me directly if that is something you want to look in to. Otherwise, the Roadmaster kit will be your best bet.
