Question:
Is there a way to unhook the factory installed brake controller on an 05 F250 S/D that does not cause the TBC Fault message to be displayed in the odometer window?

Expert Reply:
The fault code will be displayed on your 2005 F-250 with factory brake controller because the powertrain control module (PCM) is looking for the factory integrated brake controller. Installing a new brake controller will not clear this fault. You will have to take the vehicle to a Ford Dealer and have the PCM flashed so that the computer no longer tries to verify the factory brake controller. This will not disable the wiring for the brake controller but will clear the fault code and keep it from returning.
Once you have the factory brake controller out you'll be able to use the existing connector # 3065-P to install an after market brake controller, like our best selling Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885.
