Troubleshooting Curt A20 5th Wheel Hitch With Chevy/GM Legs That Wont Line Up With The Pucks

Published 05/12/2022

Question:

We just bought the Curt A20 with Chevy puck system to replace our Curt A16 coming off same truck. We went to install the A20, thinking i5 would just in, but we are finding we can get 3 of 4 to in, but the last one appears to be about 1/4” off too narrow. We will try to play with it again today, but is there some easy adjustment to the male pins that go into the puck slots? We thought this would be a 10 minute install after legs are on and torqued to required 100# but this apparently isn’t the case. Is it defective leg or are there adjustments? Again, the previous one fit just fine.

If the legs of your Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package # C16064 got torqued down even slightly crooked this could be the cause of the 1/4" interference. I also complete installs on video here and when it comes to torqueing down components if you don't get them placed exactly right when tightening them down they will fight you to the death.

I recommend taking the issue leg off and realigning it and retightening it down, alternating between the bolts to prevent the leg from slipping a certain way and throwing off the alignment. Unless you're using a digital torque wrench you could've also torqued that side down slightly more than the other, which could also cause this issue.

I've been in your position numerous times and completely understand your frustrations. If after retorquing you find that legs still aren't lining up correctly let me know and we can keep troubleshooting.
