Recommended Axle Replacement On A Carry-om 6x12 Utility Trailer

Published 05/10/2022

Question:

I have a Carry-on 6x12 utility trailer that needs a replacement axle with hubs. The original axle is a Carry-On 3K8874 Dexter # 51955 with a GAWR of 3500 lb. The Hub Face dimension is 88.0 inches, the Spring Centerline dimension is 74.50 inches, and the springs are under-slung. The hub bolt pattern is 5 on a 4.5 inch circle, and there are no brakes. My question.....is your listed Dexter 35545I-ST-89 Axle with Idler Hubs a direct replacement? The axle dimensions shown are slightly different than those on my trailers original axle. I have attached pictures for reference.

When it comes to The Dexter Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs - 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern - 89 inch Long - 3,500 pounds # 35545I-ST-89 it is not a direct replacement but it will work for your Carry-On 6x12 utility trailer.

This axle has a underslung design- spring seats are welded to underside of axle for mounting leaf springs. The bearings, races, seals, grease caps, wheel studs, lug nuts, and marine-grade wheel bearing grease are included. The hub face to hub face is 1 inch longer then your original axle so that is a 1/2 inch on each side, and the spring center to spring center is 74 inches which means your axle is 1/2 inch longer. You will have to move the spring seat over a little bit. There will be no problem with changing over to the # 35545I-ST-89 axle.

I attached a review video link below.
