I have a duo-therm 59516.531 and was wondering which AC unit I need? Do I need the one with the heat pump?

For an RV with a currently installed Dometic Duo-Therm 59516.531 AC unit, I recommend the Advent Air for Dometic Setups, # ACDOM150. This is a 15,000 Btu replacement option that plugs directly into your current Dometic setup and works seamlessly with your existing, in-good-working-order Dometic air distribution box and thermostat. The benefit of his option is that has an adapter wiring kit, which saves you time and effort.

This does not have a heat option, but you can choose to add the Electric Heat Strip, # ACMHD. It is not a necessary add-on.

What is included at no extra is the start capacitor. This helps to jumpstart the AC and is a beneficial upgrade that provides the AC a boost when shore power or generator power isn't enough to start it. Everything you need in order to replace your current AC unit is included in this option, which makes installation simple and easy.

Hello, I am looking to change my Dometic Duo Therm air conditioner model 59516531. I recommend that you install Advent Air RV Air Conditioners - ACDOM150. This one does not heat. Do you have a model that both air conditions and heats?

@PierreP The # ACDOM150 does not have a built in heater, you can a heat strip # ACMHD but it will only help with brisk mornings, it does not work in place of a furnace. We do not have any air conditioners with a built in heater, we recommend that you use your furnace for heating. Even the Dometic Penguin II High Capacity RV Air Conditioner w/ Heat Pump - Single Zone - 15,000 Btu - White # DMC68ZR has it listed with a heat pump, this would still only be for brisk mornings and would not work as a heater. We do offer furnaces separately like the # DMC54RR.

@KateF Thank you for your reply. Basically what we need is additional heating in the morning because we are in Florida. So if I understand correctly I could purchase the ACDOM150 and a bandwidth for the heat. Can you provide me with what I need to order to solve my problem. Thank you for your good advice.

@PierreP You will want to purchase the # ACDOM150 then you can add the # ACMHD. Like I said it does not work in place of a heater though, but it will help get the cold out in the morning. If you don't want to use a furnace to heat up, you could also consider adding an electric fireplace like the Greystone 26" Electric Fireplace with Crystals - Recessed Mount - Black # 324-000069, that way you aren't burning through propane like you do with a furnace, but it will help heat you up a little more in the morning.

Good morning, I currently have a Dometic Duo-Therm 15k Model 59516.331 and I am looking at possible replacements. I was hoping to keep my existing 5 button thermostat and Air Distribution Box if at all possible. This unit is ducted and installed on a 2007 Montana 5th wheel and time for a replacement and or upgrade. Thanks in advance. Jim

@JimS With the new refrigerant being released this year, you will need a whole new system. I recommend the Furrion Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner with Air Distribution Box - Ducted - 18,000 BTU - White # FR99TD. If you're replacing your system, it makes sense to upgrade to one of the best options available. This unit is significantly more efficient and cools faster than most others. It also includes a remote thermostat, making installation much easier, no need to run new wiring to a wall-mounted thermostat. I attached a review video for you to check out. @KateF Hello Kate, thank you for the quick response. Yes, my AC unit starts normally and runs great for approx 90 seconds until it trips the c/b. Reset the breaker and it starts up again, c/b trips again. The fan runs fine without tripping the c/b. I replaced the start capacitor thinking this may be the solution as it tested intermittently, no help. Just to confirm, because of the new refrigerant requirements, the Advent ACM150 is no longer an option for a replacement? I noticed your website still sells the Advent so was a little surprised. That would have been a good cost effective solution. Thx!

@JimS That is correct Jim, we sold out of our stock on the ACM150 with the old R410a refrigerant. Which means we only have the 15,000 BTU in the new R32 refrigerant. You cannot use the old refrigerant parts with the new R32 refrigerant. If you wanted to go with the Advent, you will need a whole new system, Advent Air Low Profile RV Air Conditioner System - Single Zone - 15,000 Btu - White - R32 # ADV82SR would still be a great cost effective set-up.

I have a 2006 Forest River Cedar Creek fifth wheel, it has a Duo therm 59516.531 currently on it. It seems as if it struggles to keep up on hot summer days, what is my best option as far as an upgrade? Can I go to a larger BTU?

@AdamM Great question, Adam. This year, the AC refrigerant changed from R410a to R32. The R32 is more efficient, making it better for the environment—and in turn, better for the consumer. I consider that a win-win in my book. The downside of releasing the new refrigerant is that the old R410a parts are not compatible with the new R32 parts. With that being said, since you're looking for a new AC, you will need a whole new setup. Check out the Furrion Chill Cube RV AC w/ Air Distribution Box, Thermostat - Ducted - 18,000 Btu - White # FR69TD. This unit bumps you up to 18,000 BTU! You’ll definitely notice the difference, not only will you be amazed at how quickly it cools, but man oh man, is it quiet! *If you have a ductless system, you'll want # FR59TD. Once the R410a parts are gone, they’re gone for good. We no longer have Advent ACs that will work with your Dometic setup. If you’d like to go with an Advent setup, you’ll want the Advent Air Low Profile RV Air Conditioner System - Single Zone - 15,000 Btu - White - R32 # ADV82SR. This will work on ducted or ductless systems. It will take a little longer to get the Advent to you than the Furrion, make sure you check the ETA dates on the product pages.
