RV life is exciting, but it can be exhausting. When you stop for the night, you wanna relax in your rig. This ductless, low-profile rooftop HE AC keeps noise in check, has a heat pump to warm cold mornings, and clears low branches in wooded sites.

Highlights

  • Low-Profile Clearance for Campsites: Shorter height reduces issues with low branches and tight storage spaces.
  • Comfort for Changing Temperatures: Supplies steady cooling during the day and light heat for chilly mornings.
  • High-Efficiency Cooling: Maintains steady interior comfort while drawing less power from limited campground circuits.
  • Quiet Airflow for Everyday Living: Cools your rig without having to shout over airflow or wish you packed earplugs.
  • Set-and-Forget Temperature Control: Once set, the system runs without constant checking or adjustment.
  • Standard Roof Fit: Designed for common RV roof cutouts to help avoid reworking your roof.

Features to know about

Quiet Operation You Can Live With

After a long day outside, the goal is simple: get back to a space that cools down without filling the evening with unwanted noise. You want airflow that does its job without becoming the loudest thing in the campground. This rooftop unit moves air without demanding attention, so conversations stay normal, the TV volume stays where you set it, and sleep doesn't require earplugs. It's the kind of quiet you notice by what you don't have to do.

Cooling That Lets You Settle In

When a camper has been sitting in the sun, the heat lingers. This unit brings interior temperatures back down so you stop feeling hot and sweaty and can settle back into the space. With a ductless setup, cooled air is delivered directly into the RV through the included air distribution box, helping the space cool down faster without relying on ceiling ductwork. It helps get things to a point where relaxing inside your camper actually feels relaxing. Once the temperature is set, the system runs consistently without constant checking or adjustments. You're not babysitting controls or wondering if it's doing its job. You're using the space as intended, which matters when you're beat from the day and just wanna melt into your camper furniture.

Gentle Warmth for Cool Mornings

Some mornings start cooler than expected, especially after a night where temperatures dipped. The built-in heat pump adds light warmth to take the edge off, making it easier to get moving without immediately reaching for a full furnace cycle. It's meant for those in-between mornings when the air feels sharp, but firing up the furnace feels like more than you need.

Clearance and Fit You Don't Have to Overthink

AC Profile

The low-profile design serves a practical purpose beyond looks. A shorter overall height helps when backing into wooded campsites or pulling into spots where clearance can be tight. It's just one less thing to worry about when you've found that sweet campsite with shade from low branches, or when you're backing your adventure-mobile into storage for the season.

Comparing GE Low-Profile Models?

If you're deciding between GE's low-profile options, the difference comes down to how your RV handles power. This high-efficiency model is designed to be more forgiving in busy campgrounds or parks with shared pedestals, where electrical supply can fluctuate.

Both models deliver the same everyday comfort, quiet operation, and low-profile clearance. The HE version simply runs with less electrical strain during longer cooling cycles, which can make a difference if you've dealt with tripped breakers or inconsistent power in the past. If predictable electrical behavior matters to how you camp, this is the version built with that in mind.

Installation and Fit Details to Know

AC Profile

This model includes the ductless installation components needed to complete the system. The included air distribution box, wall-mounted thermostat, and control board work together to deliver direct airflow into your RV without using ceiling ductwork. This setup is designed for RVs without ducted air channels or for adding a second AC where ducting is not available.

If you're comparing models and wondering what will actually fit, this unit is designed around the roof openings used by most RVs. In many cases, that means working with existing cutouts rather than planning changes to your camper. Exact measurements are listed in the specs to help you confirm fit before moving forward. But if you'd rather not handle the installation yourself, you can connect with a local professional through our network of installers:

I would say I'm disappointed for several reasons. First and foremost the installation instructions are terrible, very vague. Next, this application was for an Airstream trailer that has a 2" thick roof. The Air conditioner is designed to cover a range of roof thicknesses from 2-6", what they don't tell you is that the air conditioner has to be modified for 2-3" roofs. For instance one of the long mounting bolts will run right into the fan shaft and damage the shaft, so it needs to cut shorter. 2nd, the baffle between the two air chambers on the mounting plate needs to be modified also, otherwise it pushes into the styrofoam of the air conditioning unit and causes deflection of the mounting plate and pushes the styrofoam into the squirrel cage fan. So I needed to cut almost a full inch off the baffle plate. After talking to tech support they said they make a diffirent plate for thinner roofs. Nothing in the instructions about that or from the seller. Also not included in the instructions is that you need to use foil tape to close all gaps in the baffle between the two air chambers. One more thing, the instructions say you need to remove the EPP Evaporator cover to access connection wires, nothing again in the instruction or diagrams showing what this is or how to remove it. I had to search on the internet to find out what this part was. I will have to say tech support was helpful, but seriously, why is this information not included in the instructions and accessory parts for thinner roofs not included?

I have no issue with the GE RV AC/heat pump unit I purchased but have yet to use it operationally. Purchase and shipment was easy and on time as well as the information provided by the assistant substituting the GE for the previous Colemen unit. Three issues: One is the instruction manual which is very hard to follow and does not address some items needed within the install process. The electrical box is 6"x6 5/8" the opening is 6"x6". I am not sure if this is a design flaw but needs to be addressed. When contacting the tech for support I was told I needed to tilt the box to get it to fit above the bracket (no easy feat). The instruction manual addresses the thermostat replacement but does not address installation of a new thermostat; I again had to contact a tech to be told I needed to install a thermostat wire and how to install it. The videos I found does not address either of these issues but the electric box appears to be installed without the tilt method.

  • Low Profile Replacement AC for 2018 Forest River Travel Trailer
Hey Greg! We definitely have something that will work for your 2018 Forest River travel trailer. For a low-profile option with a heat pump I recommend the new GE Appliances Low-Profile RV AC. You will have to choose the correct system based on ducted/ductless, capacity, and color. Hey Justin. The GE Appliances HE Low-Profile RV AC w/ Heat Pump item # GE86RR does not include a softstart. It has anti-vibration soft tubing and isolated rubber fan mounts to reduce noise. To reduce the amp pull when the compressor kicks on you can add the Active Controls Soft Start for RV ACs - 16 amp item # AS64FR. What kind of trailer or motorhome do you have? Hey Karl, welcome back! The GE Appliances HE Low-Profile RV AC w/ Heat Pump item # GE86RR does not have a condensation drain. Hi Todd; everything moved to the new R32 refrigerant this year following the 2025 EPA guidelines. The new AC units are not compatible with old R410A parts so a complete system replacement will be necessary. • Difference Between GE Appliances Low-Profile RV AC GE86RR and GE96RR
Hey Brett! The only difference between these two low-profile GE systems is that the # GE86RR is a high efficiency (HE) model. It will deliver the same amount of cooling but runs with less electrical strain when compared to the # GE96RR. This helps when you're running on limited campground circuits.
