Question:
I have a trailer with a Tekonsha RF Prodigy controller. I do not have a remote controller. I bought the trailer used. I cannot find a model number on the controller. I see FCC ID TFB-FREESTART and what looks like a serial number TM00047063. Also 120065-084 REV A 04/13

It looks like you have the original version of the Prodigy RF, part 902501, which was updated to the newer version of the Prodigy RF TK94FR (also known as part 902502). The replacement controller # TK27FR you're looking at is for the newer model which uses a Bluetooth connection whereas the older version did not.
If you can find a controller for the older model then definitely go for it. Otherwise you'll need to swap out your controller to the newer version, part # TK94FR, or a different controller altogether. I recommend using the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 instead because it's more cost-effective, it plugs into the vehicle 7-Way so you can use it with any trailer, and it has the same wiring requirements of the 7-Way so you won't have to add anything else to your setup.
The Echo works automatically and you'll make your adjustments via your Apple or Android smart device. There is a manual override on the app but you can also purchase the Manual Override Button # C83HR so you have a physical button to press.
If your tow vehicle is the 2019 Ford Ranger you have ni the fitguide then you will need to take a few extra steps to get the Echo to work as Ford put in their "Smart Tow" feature...which most people agree is more annoying than helpful. You will need to activate the Smart Tow feature using thein-dash settings and then turn the vehicle on and place the transmission in gear while holding the brake pedal. This will send power back to the 7-Way connector so the Echo can be powered and you can pair it with your smart device.
