Troubleshooting A Voyager WiSight Camera Monitor That Won't Pair When In The Tow Vehicle

Updated 01/10/2025 | Published 12/21/2024

Question:

I’ve had voyager wiSight WVOM541AP monitor In my 2008 ford F-250 and associated camera mounted on my 2018 Airstream 27 ft trailer for 5 years. All of a sudden I’m not getting a signal and cannot pair. Nothing has changed inside the truck or trailer. When my Airstream technician plugged in my monitor to a Jackery power supply outside my truck ,the monitor paired immediately with the camera on my airstream. Any help//suggestions on how to get the system to pair again inside my f-250?

Hi Janeene,

Since the monitor paired when plugged into an external power source that leads me to believe that maybe the 12v outlet in your F-250 isn't providing a full 12 volts. You can test the outlet to see if that's the case and then start looking into why. Some times the fuse can be damaged but not enough to fully blow. I would pull it out and check the inner coil to see if it's burned and look at the prongs for corrosion.

Have you added anything to the roof of your F-250 that could be potentially interfering with the signal?

Thanks so much for quick reply. Will check fuse in the morning and see if we get lucky. Have tried plugging it in to all 3 of the 12v receptacles in the vehicle with no luck. And, nope, nothing added to roof.

@JaneeneR If it's been connected to multiple outlets in the truck then I would still test the outlets to see what the voltage is at and if it's below 12 volts we know the truck has an issue. If it's not below 12 volts then you likely just have too much draw from the lights to power both the camera and lights. Nothing new has been tapped into the running light circuit on your trailer since this issue popped up either? Have you noticed any issues with the lights? Do they seem like they're not as bright as they once were?

@KevinC You are so nice to continue trying to help me. Thank you. The only thing I can think of is we are running with the lithium battery heater switch on since the cold weather hit. Perhaps that’s an unexpected draw. Will turn it off for a few miles and see if it helps. I just spoke with ASE earlier and they had me wait to power the lights on until the pairing countdown was mid-process. We got signal for a few seconds, then off, then on for a few seconds every 5 min or so. They are thinking it’s just worn out. Since it’s on an airstream they said we may have to replace it with WVSXS70A — weren’t sure whether eTRailer has the one ending in A that the Airstream installed with smaller hole/connector.

@JaneeneR The Voyager WiSight 2.0 Wireless RV Backup Camera System # ASA57YR (WVSXS70) would have the correct wire harness included for your Airstream. Instead of using the plugin connector you'll be tapping directly into power and ground wires. The included harness has butt connectors already on it so you'd just need to cut the old wiring off crimp on the new harness and plug the camera into the harness.
