What Does a Pole Tongue Adapter Do and are Additional Parts Needed to Install One
Updated 08/29/2013 | Published 08/28/2013 >
Question:
The pictures of the pole tongue do not show any sway control brackets. Do I have to order them seperately? If so what is the part number I need.

The pole tongue adapter # RP58393 is just an adapter that will allow you to use a Reese SC weight distribution system with a trailer that has a pole tongue. The system that you have or choose has built-in sway control and the brackets used to mount to the adapter. Basically what the adapter is doing is providing an artificial A-frame so the weight distribution system can be installed.
The first thing you are going to want to do is contact the trailer manufacturer to determine if the trailer can be used with weight distribution. A lot of pole tongue trailers are boat trailers and a lot of boat trailers are aluminum and a lot of aluminum trailers cannot be used with weight distribution because of the stresses involved. Confirming with the trailer manufacturer first is a good idea.
Then, if you can use a system and need one, I would need to know the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded and ready to tow plus the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. Then I can recommend a system for you. I have included a link to the installation instructions for the adapter and a link to our FAQ article on weight distribution for you.
