Screw Size Needed For Mounting The MB Sturgis 2-Stage Regulator

Question:

On the rear of the regulator the first and second stages both have 2 protruding holes that appear to serve as a means of mounting the regulator to a vertical bracket. Unfortunately, they are not threaded. My question is, can these holes be safely tapped to mount the regulator with screws to a bracket? If so, is there a recommended tap/thread size?

Expert Reply:

Since this type of regulator is typically mounted to a copper propane line you wouldn't need to mount it, but yes, the four holes on the back of the MB Sturgis # 108220 2-stage regulator will allow you to mount the regulator. The holes aren't threaded but the metal is soft enough that a # 8 1/4 inch machine screw would cut threads perfectly into it, Just be mindful that you don't push the screw too far and damage the regulator.
