Question:
I have a 2003 Silverado 1500 Im looking to install a class 4 curt hitch. How much would it affect the hitch if the 2 bolts going up into the bumper reinforcement are unable to be installed. The reinforcement is rusted out and the bolts can not be installed.

Expert Reply:
The 2 bolts that go into the bumper portion of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C14332 are a required part of the installation. Curt will void any warranty on the hitch if it is not installed properly as per their instructions. There is no way to know how the receiver will respond without those bolts as they did not test the receiver without those bolts installed. If you wish to install this receiver I recommend either having the rusted section cut out and replaced or having the reinforcement replaced completely.
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15323 can be installed as well. This Class V receiver does not require the bolts that go into the bumper reinforcement. This would be a better option as you will get a stronger receiver and you will not have to worry about replacing the damaged part of your bumper.
