Add More Solar to Rockwood Geo Pro 15tB - Can I Mix RV Solar Panels In One Install?
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
I have a 2020 Rockwood Geo Pro 15TB that has the flexible 100 watt Go Power panel on the roof and I’d like to add another 100/200watt panel for some additional power. Do I have to use the same brand Go Power or can I add a Renogy panel and tie it into my current Go Power 100w flexible panel and system? Is there a benefit to adding another flexible panel vs. rigid and could I add rigid if I wanted too?

If you have a 100 watt Go Power flexible panel currently and you would like to add another, I would use the same panel. Generally the mixing of panels with disparate voltages, wattage, and amps is not recommended. If they are electrically rated the same, and your charge controller can handle additional panels/watts, then you could add different branded panels. Regarding flexible vs rigid panels, some older flexible solar panels, mounted directly to a flat surface, could overheat and not work as well, or experience failure. I have not seen those same complaints on the newest panels. Still if it were me, I would weight the cost, ease of install, and performance of the panels.
I have another approach to your issue which is by far the easiest, quickest, and many times strongest idea. Many of our customers use the Go Power # 34282610 Portable 200 watt system. You can connect this kit directly to your battery on one end then use the included 12 foot cable to move the panel to a sunny spot at your camp. Most times the spot you are camped will either be shaded all or most of the day. The long cord lets you move the panels to the best spot where you will receive the strongest charge.
This unit also moves easily to another camper or tailgate party as needed.
For the longer cable, use Go Power # 34270356 for a 30 foot extension. I would avoid using it though, as you will lose some amperage in a run that long. However when you really have to have it - it's priceless
