Comparing OEM Trailer Hitch to Aftermarket Hitch for 2018 Acura MDX
Published 11/16/2018 >
Question:
Hi. I am looking at a 2018 Acura MDX and deciding on going with the factory hitch or just waiting and getting an aftermarket unit. I see you have a few available. Can you tell me if there would be a difference? Recommendation for an aftermarket?

For your 2018 Acura MDX the aftermarket trailer hitch that will be most similar to the OEM/factory unit is the etrailer.com Class III Hitch # e98840.
The primary difference between the OEM hitch for the Acura MDX and an aftermarket model is their physical appearance from behind the vehicle. The OEM hitch will actually protrude out through the lower bumper fascia for a more hidden design while any aftermarket hitch will sit just below the bumper.
While it doesn't come out through the bumper, the etrailer.com # e98840 does feature the most hidden design for an aftermarket hitch so it will still provide you with a really sleek and clean look. Only the receiver is visible from behind the Acura (see attached image). It also features higher capacities (6,000 pounds towing and 900 pound tongue weight) than the factory unit and will be quite a bit friendler in terms of cost. Its matte black finish also offers a rugged look that is unique to this particular model.
I have attached an installation video that you can also use for reference.
