How to Install the etrailer.com Trailer Hitch on a 2016 Acura MDX

Speaker 1: Today on our 2016 Accura MDX you're going to be taking a look at, and I'm going to show you how to install the etrailer.com Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver. Part number E98840. This is what our hitch looks like when it's installed. As you can see the cross tube is completely hidden behind the bumper fascia so maintains that nice clean look on the vehicle. Another good thing about this hitch is that the end of the receiver tube is not going to stick out past the end of the bumper fascia, so we're not going to have to worry about hitting our legs, or our shins on it when we're loading or unloading the vehicle. This is going to be a Class III hitch. It's going to be 2" by 2".

You can see the receiver tube has a nice reinforced collar to give it a little added stability. The hitch pin hole is going to be 5/8" in diameter, it's going to take a standard 5/8" hitch pin. The hitch pin and clip does not come with this hitch, but you can find it on our website. You are going to have roll steel style safety chain loops. You can see it has a very large opening, so give it plenty of room for different size safety chain hooks. Now as far as weight capacities go, we're going to have a 900 lb.

max tongue weight which is the downward pressure on the inside of the receiver tube and a 6,000 max trailer weight which is a trailer plus the load included. You can use weight distribution with this tongue weight's going to stay the same however your trailer weight's going to go up to 8,000 pounds. I'd highly recommend checking the owner's manual of your Accura to make sure the vehicle can withstand that amount of weight. You want to choose the lowest number between the vehicle and the hitch. As far as the installation goes it's a pretty simple installation. I do recommend cleaning out the threads and having someone help you lift the hitch into place.

Now let's give you a few measurements to help you when deciding on any hitch mount accessories you may need. From the center of the hitch pin hole to outer most part of the bumper will be about 2 1/4". From the ground to the top innermost part of the receiver tube will be about 14 1/4".Now let's show you how to get this installed. The first thing we need to do to start our installation is go ahead and remove your spare tire. We've gone ahead and done that.

The next thing we've got to do is on each frame rail we're going to have weld nuts. We need to make sure those are cleaned out. We're going to take some lubricant spray and a nylon tube brush. If you don't have one of these you find one on our website. We want to make sure those threads are good and clean. Next what we want to do is take one of our bolts in our hardware kit and you want to hand thread it up there to make sure it's going to go in, nice and easy. You want to make sure that our threads aren't going to cross. Once you've done one side, you're going to repeat that process on the other.Next we're going to take our hex bolt, conical g-force remember to make sure the teeth are facing toward the hitch. We're going to put three of these in each frame rail. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help lift the hitch up. We'll get one in on each side, that will hold our hitch in place while we install the rest of our hardware. Next you want to make sure your hitch is centered. You're going to take a 22 mm socket and I would suggest using a swivel because this back one or this most forward one here, over your exhaust pipe's a little hard to get to.Go ahead and tighten all of your hardware down. Next we're going to torque all of our hardware to the specifications in the instructions. You're going to repeat that for all of the remaining hardware. Once you have all of your hardware torqued to the correct specifications reinstall your spare tire and you're ready to go.That will do it for a look at an installation on the etrailer.com Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver part number E98840 on our 2016 Accura MDX.
