Do I Have To Buy New Wheels To Accommodate A 110 PSI Tire?
Question:
I am think about changing out my E rated tires for G tires. The Es are 80 psi while the Gs are 110 psi. Will I have to change the wheels on the trailer to accommodate the Gs?

Typically the limiting factor on a trailer rim when it comes to tire pressure is the valve stem used on the wheel. Sometimes you can still find the air pressure rating printed on the rim or in the owners manual. Some trailers have a plate on the trailer frame near the coupler that has the PSI, VIN, axle capacities, as well as the trailer tire size and Load Range recommended.
If you can confirm that the wheels you have on your trailer can accommodate tire pressure of 110 and G rated tires, all you have to do is change out the valve stem when you put on the new tires on the existing wheels.
A product like Americana Metal Bolt-In Valve Stem # AM20906 will allow pressure of tire pressure of 100 psi and greater. It works on rim hole diameters: 0.453" and 0.625" on trailer wheels. Checking the air pressure rating printed on the rim could save you from having to buy new wheels to accommodate the G rated tires.
