How to Pull a Fifth Wheel Trailer With 5-1/2 Foot Bed Ford Truck

Question:

The only way for you to pull a fifth wheel trailer with a 5-1/2 foot bed is to use a Sidewinder and fixed fifth wheel; a sliding hitch would not give you enough clearance between the hitch and cab and would not allow you enough space to turn without your trailer smashing your cab. If you let me know the year and model of your Ford truck I may be able to find a set up for you. In the meantime please take a look at the help articles I've linked on fifth wheels and Sidewinders.

You will need a Sidewinder in order to tow a fifth wheel with your 2008 Ford F-150, and the correct replacement will depend on the manufacturer and model number of your trailer's king pin; I've added a link to our selection of Sidewinders for you to take a look at to find the right one for you. As for a fifth wheel hitch I recommend the Reese # RP30928, which is compatible with a Sidewinder. To install this on your F-150 you can use the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit - Ford Brackets # RP30035-426, which are a confirmed fit for the 5-1/2 foot bed on your 2008 F-150. I've also attached links to video reviews of these parts for you to take a look at.
