  • Distance between arms (outside cradle to outside cradle): 12"
  • Distance between bikes: 7"
  • Carrier weight: 13.5 lbs

Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

Thule Gateway Pro

The Gateway Pro lets you carry 3 bikes on the back of your sedan, hatchback, or van. Adjustable legs with oversize pads fit the contour of your vehicle. Adjustable arms with HideAway anti-sway cradles keep your bikes level during transport, and they fold down for parking in tight spaces. It installs easily with 6 straps with nylon-coated hooks and a FitDial system with vehicle-specific settings. It includes a Thule One-Key System cable lock that secure your bikes to the rack, and you can fold it flat for storage in your trunk or garage.

HideAway Anti-Sway Cradles with Ratcheting Straps

Thule Gateway Pro anti sway cradles

The Gateway Pro has HideAway anti-sway cradles that secure each bike at 3 points - twice along the top tube and once along the seat post or downtube. This helps to keep your bikes from rocking back and forth and bumping into each other, or your vehicle. The soft rubber cradles are set 7" apart on the arms, preventing your bikes from becoming tangled on the rack. You can remove the lower straps and fold the cradles up against the arms to make it easier to slide your bikes onto the rack.

Adjustable Dual Arms

Thule Gateway Pro anti sway cradles<br class=

The Gateway Pro has adjustable arms that provide excellent support for your bikes. The built-in levers allow the arms to be adjusted up and down. Just flip the lever up, rotate the arm to the desired position, then flip the lever down to lock the arm in place. This helps to keep your bikes level on the rack and provides increased ground clearance.

Thule Gateway Pro anti sway cradles<br class=

The levers also allow you to fold down the arms when the rack is not in use and to fold the rack flat for storage.

6-Strap Installation with Fit-Dial System

Thule Gateway Pro anti sway cradles<br class=

The rack installs quickly and easily with 6 nylon straps that keep it anchored in place. The steel hooks on these extra-long straps have a nylon coating to prevent scratches on your vehicle, and the straps tighten in place with easy-to-use, backpack-style cinches.

Thule Gateway Pro Fit Dial System

The FitDial system lets you easily adjust the rack to fit the shape of your trunk, and the long, arcing tubes are designed to fit over most factory spoilers. Simply press the Quick-Fit levers and rotate the base until the centers of the levers line up with the numbers on the dials. These vehicle-specific numbers are specified in the instructions included with the rack.

Thule Gateway Pro anti sway cradles<br class=

Holders with hook-and-loop tabs are included to bind up the excess strap length when the rack is mounted so the straps don't flap in the wind. They also keep the straps nice and neat when the rack is folded in storage.

Thule Gateway Pro foam pads

Oversized foam pads on the Gateway Pro's upper and lower bases grip your trunk or rear hatch to keep the rack firmly in place during transport. The soft padding helps prevent scratches and scuff marks on your vehicle.

Integrated Cable Lock

Thule Gateway Pro anti sway cradles <br class=

The rack includes an integrated cable lock to secure your bikes to the rack. It has a Thule One-Key System lock cylinder that can be swapped out if you own other Thule products and want to use the same key to lock them all. The cable lock extends from the tip of the left arm, threads around your bike's frames, and secures to the arm. It retracts back into the arm when not in use.

There is also an available locking strap (sold separately) that secures the rack to your vehicle.

Hyundai Elantra

Still working great on my Hyundai Elantra sedan! It's used mostly to carry one bike, but have used it with three bikes with no problems. Easy to put on the car, and easy to store it in the car when not in use.

I did my research to make sure this 3 bike rack would fit my car. Unfortunately when it’s properly attached to my Honda Accord, the 3rd bikes petals rub up against my license plate and trunk therefore scratching my paint. Contacted etrailer and sent them pics. Very unhappy that they would suggest that I only use 2 bikes so it doesn’t damage my car. Defeats spending more $ on a 3 bike rack

I reached out to Thule who advised that using a bike adapter bar with the bikes would help with the spacing. I have linked the bike adapter bars that we have below. You will also want to make sure that you are using the anti sway cages and the long strap that comes with the bike rack. They will help hold the bikes in place.

Nissan Pathfinder

I purchased this bike rack for my Nissan Pathfinder after not being able to find a rack for months due to COVID. When I saw it I jumped at the chance to get it because of the brand name and just the opportunity to use it. This rack is sturdy and reliable. I have had it for about a year and it has not let me down. Also, the staff at etrailer was really helpful to me since I'd never purchased a bike rack before, I was confident I was doing the right thing by going with them for the purchase.

by:

It is a good bike carrier but if I had it to do again I would bite the bullet and buy a trailer hitch for my Jetta and go with a hitch mount. I believe it is more secure.

by:
2017 Volkswagen Jetta

etrailer customer service is the BEST. I referred the site to two other friends.

The bike rack is a great product. Following the directions it was easy to strap on. The bikes are a lot sturdier than a cheaper brand I was using before.
My only issue is that the right strap keeps slipping off. I have tightened it but it still falls off. I noticed the right bottom clip is silver and not black like the other 5.

2010 Kia Sedona

The Thule Gateway Pro 3 does fit our Kia Sedona 2010 as promised. Three adult mountain bikes fit on the rack, but tightly, with no extra space between.

by:

The product is very well made and will meet the needs of our family. The product is a gift to our daughter and her husband and will they will welcome the use of it instead of piling the bikes in the cargo area.

They have only used it a couple of times, but were more than satisfied with the product. Glad we found the site.

by:

Outstanding bike rack that is sturdy and easy to mount and use. We go to the beach and go riding every weekend now and save a ton of money by bringing our own bikes. I like the fact that the rack has a locking feature.

Excellent product...made in the USA. etrailer.com was great to deal with. The communication was excellent and shipping was prompt once they received the rack from the company. I would buy it again from etrailer.com.

by:
2010 Toyota Prius

We are able to transport 3 adult bikes successfully with this. It took us a while to get everything just right the first time and to make sure the bikes don't touch, but it seems to work well for our purpose. Unfortunately, one of the straps was missing in the box. We only received 8 straps instead of the required 9 straps for tying down the bikes, and I called about that right away. Hope we will get the replacement strap shipped to us soon so we don't have to resort to using a zip tie.

by:

Had some trouble with the side hooks/straps coming loose. Eventually, I took the excess strap that goes through the tightening mechanism and tied them together to keep the straps tight. That seemed to work. I held 2 adult bikes and a youth bike well though. Easy to put up and take down.

by:

Got this present for a very special good boy last year and let me tell you he loves it! Easy to install, held the bikes easily. Two thumbs up! My only complaint was that it was hard to get through that chimney.

by:
2018 Subaru Outback Wagon

Easy to install and uninstall! Holds our bikes well! Worked perfectly on my 2018 Subaru Outback.

by:

wish thernwere an easy way to lift the arms verically so pedestrians wouldnt put their eye out.

maybe you should include small bright flags to attach the ends of the arms!

by:
2018 Subaru Forester

Swift and easy purchase! Reasonable cost for the product. Shipping was free. Delivery was prompt. I would highly recommend etrailer to friends, family, and colleagues.

by:

It's great. And the #8 setting on the angle just happens to work on our other car also so switching between cars is easy.

by:

Fits my 2015 Outback great and works as advertised. I feel like the build quality is good too

by:

My daughter loves it. Easy to attach and gets job done

  • Recommended 3 Bike Carrier For 2015 Buick Encore
A hitch mounted bike rack is a great option, but if you are having someone install a hitch for you the costs can grow quickly as you mentioned. For a more economical option, you may want to consider using a trunk mounted bike rack for your 2015 Buick Encore. I recommend the Thule Gateway Pro 3-Bike Rack - Trunk Mount - Adjustable Arms # TH78VR. This rack comes with the integrated cable lock to secure your bikes to the rack but I recommend adding # TH533 to secure the rack to your vehicle....

  • How to Carry Three Bikes on a 2017 Mazda 6 Grand Touring
We currently have two no-drill trailer hitch receivers for your 2017 Mazda 6 Grand Touring which are the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 24908 and the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11356. They both have a Class I rating with a 1-1/4" receiver tube opening and will be limited to a max of two bikes. I recommend going with the Draw-Tite Sportframe trailer hitch receiver as this option will not require you to purchase an additional support strap part # 18050 like the...

  • Will the Thule Gateway 3 Trunk Mount Rack Fit a 2011 Jeep Compass
Yes, I checked with Thule and the Thule Gateway Pro 3 Bike Carrier # TH78VR that you referenced is confirmed to fit your vehicle. You will need to place top clips in the gap at the front edge of the top of the trunk, place lower clips in the bottom edge of trunk and the lower arm of the carrier should be positioned on the upper tier of the bumper. If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without horizontal top tubes you may also be interested in purchasing a Thule...

  • Recommended 3 Bike Rack for 2010 Toyota Corolla
Actually, the Thule Gateway XT you looked at, part # TH78VR would be a great choice. The Gateway is a quality bike rack that provides padded cradles to safely and securely hold your bikes during transport. Anti-sway cradles will prevent the bikes from swaying back and forth and banging into each other or the rear of your vehicle. The rack can accommodate three bikes weighing up to 105 lbs in total, and is a fit for your Corolla. If you'll be transporting women's bikes or bikes with sharply-angled...

  • Will the Thule Gateway Pro Trunk Mount Bike Rack Fit a 2012 Mazda CX-9
The Thule Gateway Pro # TH78VR is listed as a fit for the 2012 Mazda CX-9. The adapter bar # TH982XT is not required unless you had a step-trough type of frame since the arms of the rack move independently of each other and the rest of the rack. A traditional woman's bike frame would not need the adapter bar.

  • Will the Thule Gateway Pro Trunk Mount Bike Rack Fit a 2013 Jeep Compass
Yes, the Thule Gateway Pro 3, # TH78VR, is listed as a fit for your 2013 Jeep Compass. We have several trunk mount bike racks that are listed as a fit for your vehicle. I have included a link to the options for you. If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical mens bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # TH982XT. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have...

My top recommendation for a 3-bike trunk-mount rack for your 2014 Lexus CT 200h is easy: the Thule OutWay 3, part # TH56BV. This thoroughly-engineered carrier includes locks for both your bikes and for the rack itself, uses a superior 2-cable attachment system and includes Thule's patented Fit-Dial mounting system for easy installation. It is built to last, made in the USA and backed by Thule's limited lifetime warranty. Few companies stand behind their products the way Thule consistently...

The 3 bike model, part # TH78VR can handle up to 105 lbs, with bikes up to 35 lbs apiece. • Trunk Mount Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2012 Kia Sorento and Womens and Childrens Bikes
I have a solution for you that I think you will like. Take a look at the Thule Gateway, # TH78VR. This is a 3 bike rack that has a capacity of 105 pounds total. It does have cushioned legs but remember that the more weight that is on the rack the more pressure it is pointing on the contact points on the vehicle. It is possible that with enough weight, it could deform the vehicle. If the vehicle surface and bike rack legs are clean it will not scratch the paint. The arms of the rack are...

On a new vehicle like your 2017 Forester I do suggest installing a hitch to enable use of a hitch-type bike rack rather than a trunk-mount rack. The benefits are many: no pressure on vehicle features such as a rear spoiler, no rack contact with your painted finish, you do not lose use of a rear wiper if the car has one, you can carry far more bike weight on a hitch type rack than on a trunk mount, you retain access to your rear hatch (it cannot be opened with a trunk-mount rack in place)...
