Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2012 Toyota Highlander - Hidden Hitch

Today on our 2012 Toyota Highlander, we'll be installing Hidden Hitch, part number 87452. This is what our hitch will look like once it's installed. Next, we'll go ahead and give you a couple of measurements to assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 1-1/2 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 14-1/4 inches. This will assist you in selecting accessories such as a drawbar, a bike rack, or a cargo carrier.

Now, let's go ahead with the installation. Before we could install the hitch, we'll need to remove both the driver and passenger's side underbody trim panels. These will get removed and will not be reinstalled. With this application, the manufacturer has suggested cutout lines if you wish to cut them out and reinstall them. However, for this application we will not.

To remove the underbody trim panels, there are multiple pushpin fasteners and bolt fasteners to remove. We'll go ahead and start on the driver's side and then remove the passenger's side. Now with both underbody trim panels removed, we'll go ahead and remove both tow hooks. There are two fasteners for each tow hook, one on each side. Once again, we'll set these aside as they will not be reinstalled.

Now, we're ready to go ahead and point out the attachment points. We'll have a total of three on each side in the bottom of the frame. We'll need to go ahead and remove the rubber plug for the forward fastener on the driver's side. Next, we'll go ahead and take our 1/2-inch nylon tube brush, part number 814092 and some spray lubricant and clean out each one of the weld nuts. We do this so that we can go ahead and take one of the new 10-mm bolts and make sure they're going to thread in nice and easily, because over time the threads can build up with rust, dust, dirt and debris, making it difficult to install the new fasteners.

Now, we're ready to go ahead and install the hitch. We'll be using the new 10-mm bolts with the conical toothed washers, the teeth of the washer facing the hitch. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install the fasteners. Now with all six fasteners installed, we can go ahead and tighten them down. Next, we can go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. And that will complete our install of Hidden Hitch part number 87452 on our 2012 Toyota Highlander.

Was excited to get my hitch so quickly and I was able to install it in no time flat! Really appreciated the instructional video - it was a great help in making my decision. It was a great value for the money. I saved another $180 buy buying it from you and installing it myself. I can't wait to load up my bike and hit the trails. 80726

I get a lot of use out of the hitch. Not only do I use it for my bike rack, but I also bought a hitch basket for hauling extra stuff while on vacation. The extra space in the car that I gain alone makes the hitch a great investment!

As a first time user of, I am writing to express how pleased I was with the service, timeliness of delivery, and quality of product. I found the service representative very helpful in providing information and answering my questions; she assisted in ensuring the correct hitch for my vehicle. The product was received the next day - very fast considering I live in a different state! Installation went smoothly, exactly as shown on the video provided on the site. As indicated by the rating, I recommend as a reputable and quality provider. 33729

Very easy to install on my 2010 Toyota Highlander. Instructions are clear and simple the video made it look easy. The Hitch took under 1 hour to install. I took a little extra time to custom fit the "Plastic appearance panels" and put them back on (a couple of cut of the plastic and they went back on). The hardest part was removing the pre-installed tow hooks the bolts were on tight. My other issue was that I did not have a torque wrench and had to borrow one from a friend. Shipping was fast!! Would buy from them again. 79964

Ordered receiver Tuesday night (great price), received it Thursday evening (free shipping), installed it Friday evening (20 minutes with help). I also liked that I was able to review the install instruction for each receiver on the info page. It made it easy to find the one I needed. Staff also kept me informed of order status all the way to receiving. 9784
