Today we're going to be taking a look at the Optronics GloLight LED Backup Light for trucks and trailers. The oval backup light is designed for trailers and utility trucks. This is certified for the backup light function in a 2-lamp system when a pair of lights is installed. Your second light is sold separately so with this part number, you're only going to get one GloLight from Optronics. It does feature a sonically sealed waterproof housing and lens until that can be submersed in water. The GloLight series is going to feature a bright outer ring of light with a smooth appearance. Now again it is a LED system.
LEDs are going to make great replacements for incandescent lights, they last much longer, they burn brighter, they're more efficient. You don't have to worry about replacing bulbs, you don't have to worry about brittle filaments. We're looking at a polycarbonate lens and housing. It's going to contain white LEDs with a clear lens. When it comes to mounting the unit, it is designed to be a recess mount with a grommet.
Your grommet's sold separately. If you're in need of one, you can find them here at etrailer.com. The light is going to fit into a hole that measures 6 and 7/8 of an inch long by 2 and 1/2 inches tall. It will accept an industry-standard 2-prong plug. Your plug is sold separately, you can find them here at etrailer.com. Now on the back of the unit you're going to notice that it does have a 3-pin connection.
Since this is a backup light only, it just needs a ground and power connection so that's why it requires a 2-prong plug and not a 3-pin connector. But Optronics does put a 3-pin connector on most of their lights even though it may only require a 2-prong plug so don't let that throw you off. The 2-prong plug will cover up all 3 ports for a sealed connection. The unit is Department of Transportation compliant. It meets FMVSS108 requirements. Taking a look at some of the dimensions real quick, starting with the overall length.
That's going to give us a measurement of 6 and 1/2 inches long. The overall height looks to measure pretty close to 2 and 3/8 of an inch. Then when it comes to the depth, including that plug, we're looking at 1 and 3/4 of an inch. Just this portion here, that's going to measure right at 1 inch. The light contains 22 diodes. It's going to have a power draw of 0.386 amps at 12.8 volts. Optronics is going to put a lifetime warranty on the LEDs. We're going to go ahead and hook it up to our external power source, that way you can see what it looks like with power running to it. I have a 2-prong connector here with us today. Plugs into these two holes right here. Line it up, push it in, you can see how it creates a nice seal over those pins. You can see that this is a pretty bright light. Again, it's going to contain 22 diodes. We have the center area of light and then we have that bright outer band. Provides a nice, consistent light output. The multi-diode design is really going to help optimize our light output. That's going to do it for today's look at the Optronics GloLight LED Backup Light.

Can I use this light for license plate? I saw one at a store that worked for both. I know if it only works on back up I might need a different light that can do both. I couldn’t find it here on website. Napa auto had it but I don’t think it was glow. I also would like to know if you sell the 6” oval with 2” round light mounting box with license plate mount on the left side? Found it on different sites and would like to order everything from etrailer.
