Review of Optronics Trailer Lights BUL12CB

Today we're going to be taking a look at the LED back up light from Optronics. This is designed for trailers and utility trucks. This is certified for the back up light function and a 2 lamp system. When a pair of lights is installed, your second light is sold separately. The unit's going to be sonically sealed. It's got a water proof housing and lens unit so it can be submersed in water.

LEDs are going to make great replacements for incandescent lights. They're going to last much longer. They're going to be more efficient. They're going to burn brighter. You don't have to worry about replacing bulbs and you don't have to worry about burned out filaments.

The unit's going to feature a polycarbonite lens and housing. It's going to contain white LEDs with a nice clear lens. This is designed to be a recessed mount with a mounting grommet. Your grommet is sold separately. If you're in need of one, you can find them here at etrailer.com.

Here on the back side, we'll see that it will accept an industry standard 2 prong plug. Your plug is sold separately as well. If you're in need, you can find them here at etrailer.com. On the back you are going to notice a 3 pin connection. Now since this is a back up light, it just needs a ground and power connection. Optronics puts the 3 pin connector on most of their lights even though it may only require a 2 prong plug.

As you'll see later when we hook it up to power, a 2 prong plug will cover up all 3 connection points for a sealed design. The unit is Department of Transportation compliant. It meets FMVSS108 requirements. Taking a look at the dimensions, the overall length is going to give us a measurement of about 6 1/2". The overall height, that's going to measure about 2 1/4". The depth, measuring to the plug is going to measure about 1 3/4" and then just this portion here is going to measure 1" in depth. It's going to contain 6 LEDs or 6 diodes. The power draw is 0.260 amps at 12.8 volts and Optronics is going to put a lifetime warranty on the LEDs. We're going to go hook it up to our external power source. We'll also be able to turn off our overhead lights. Take our 2 prong plug, fit it into the ports here at the back. You can see that it creates a nice sealed design. You can see that the lights sends out a really nice consistent signal. Again, it's going to contain 6 LEDs, white LEDs with a clear lens and the multi diode design is really going to help optimize our light output.
