Will Gen-Y Nomad 5th Wheel To Gooseneck Adapter Work On 2022 Keystone Cougar 29RKS?

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 12/03/2025

Question:

I’ve got a 2022 Cougar 29RKS fifth wheel and I’m over messing with my slider hitch. Thinking about switching to the Gen-Y Nomad setup. Will either of these Nomads bolt up to my trailer?

Hey Jason, great question - the Keystone Cougar line almost always uses a Lippert 1621 pin box, which puts you in the territory for the Gen-Y Nomad # GY57ND. That model is built to bolt directly to the 1621/1116/1716 bolt patterns without any adapters or drilling.

Just double-check your pin box tag to confirm the number, since Keystone did mix in a few 1116 boxes and some others on some floorplans over the years. As long as it’s 1621, 1116, or 1716, the # GY57ND is a direct fit. And when you make the switch from a traditional 5th wheel hitch to a gooseneck setup, don’t forget you’ll also need Gen-Y’s safety chain kit # GY49GR for compliance and safety.

If you want to snap a photo of the pin box tag, Jason, feel free to post it here and I’ll confirm it for you. You can also see the link I attached that covers the bolt patterns.

Thanks Andrew. I checked the sticker and it does say Lippert 1621. Is there anything special I need to do during install, or is it pretty straightforward?

@Jason With the 1621 you’re good to go with the # GY57ND. Install is pretty straightforward: unbolt the old one while supporting the weight of it, then bolt up the new one using the same bolt holes and bolt count, and torque everything to spec. The big thing is just making sure all bolts are Grade 8 and properly torqued. If you want to do it solo, a floor jack or forklift makes life a lot easier, but an extra set of hands is usually necessary.
