Wiring Harness Recommendation For 2006 Jeep Liberty Without Factory Tow Harness

Question:
I have a 2006 Jeep Liberty 3.7L V6 that dont have a factory trailer tow harness. I want to ask if this Hopkins 42475 trailer wiring kit would actually work because since my Jeep did not had the tow package, I am wondering if the connectors shown in the instructions manual would have any power output at all. Ive checked the underhood fusebox and the F10 slot labeled trailer towinch doesnt have a fuse in it. I am assuming that this fuse is part of the circuit of the connector shown in the instructions manual but I am no expert therefore Im not sure. Maybe its just for the brake controller and not the lights but I dont know for sure. Ive read a lot of issues with the wiring kit made by Tow-Ready which has an independent connection to the positive battery terminal, so I am steering away from that and I just want to have a setup similar to the factory as possible and this Hopkins 42475 seems to be just that. Sorry for having you read all this but I just want to be precise and avoid the hassle of sending back items. Thank you for your time.

The Hopkins Plug in Adapter, part # 42475, is not designed to work with your 2006 Jeep Liberty, but we do have a solution that will work for you.
For your Liberty, you will need to check to see if your vehicle has the necessary connector and if it is active. You would need to locate the connector at the rear of the vehicle that should be near the drivers side frame rail by the spare tire. You can use a circuit tester like part # 3808 to test the pins of the connector for the various taillight functions.
If everything checks out okay part # 20135 would work for you. If not you would instead want the # 118524, which will give you a 4-way connector.
Then to convert the 4-way connector to a 7-way, you would want the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller, part # ETBC7. This kit will convert the 4-way connector to a 7-way, needed if you intend to use a brake controller. If you find you need the # ETBC7, you will not need the # PTW2992 circuit tester, because the # ETBC7 kit has a circuit tester included. I have attached a link to an installation video you can check out.
If you need a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is one of our most popular because it is so easy to install and operate.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the connections and helps prevent corrosion.
