The best way to determine the correct rise you will be need will be to first install the Curt hitch. Then park your Town and Country van and the trailer on level ground. Measure from the ground to the top of the receiver opening on the trailer hitch. Then, with the trailer level, measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler.

If the coupler is higher, the difference is the amount of rise you will need. You can then go through our ball mount main page, linked for you, to find the ball mount options that fit your needs. Ball mount # D-28, which you reference, will give you four inches in height.

The ball mount determines the ball shank diameter and ball shank length. With a Class III hitch you will want a 1" diameter shank. Hitch balls are available with shank lengths of short (less than 2"), medium (between 2" and 3") and long (greater than 3"). The drawbar thickness determines what shank length is needed. At least one thread needs to be visible beneath the lock washer and nut once the ball is screwed into place.

I recommend the Extra Long Ball Mount, # BH20 on your 2011 Chrysler Town and Country as long as you have a 2 inch receiver on your Curt hitch. However, ground clearance could be an issue when going over speed bumps, entering steep drives or navigating deep dips with the low position of the hitch and the extra length of the ball mount.

This ball mount has 10,000 lbs. gross trailer weight capacity and a 1,000 lbs tongue weight capacity. Be sure you do not exceed the capacity of the lowest rated item while towing.

This ball mount has a 3/4 inch rise or a 2 inch drop.
