Boat Trailer Tire Recommendation to Replace P185/65R14 Tires
Published 09/15/2014 >
Question:
I have 2000 Tracker Pro Guide V-17 and am looking for replacement tires for the trailer. The trailer currently has p185/65r14 car tires on it and am unsure if this is the original tire size. I have been unable to locate a trailer spec badge or sticker to verify. I do have some room between tire and fender for an increase in width and overall diameter. How much clearance should I allow for to ensure that tire wont contact trailer fender? Would I be able to use a ST205/75R14 or will I be stuck using car tires for this trailer?

I would recommend you replace the passenger vehicle tires you have on your boat trailer as soon as possible. You want to use ST specialty trailer rated tires as they are designed for increased vertical loads unlike a passenger vehicle rated tire.
The closest tire size to what you currently have would be the ST205/74R14 like you referenced with part # AM10234. This tire size will be an additional 3 inches taller than what you currently have and 20 mm wider. You will need to verify that you would have room for an additional 1-1/2 inches of clearance between the fenders and tires.
