Question:

I am looking for options to add a cargo bin to my toyota v 6 and 13 foot vintage travel trailer combo.My first thought was to have my trailer hitch propane holder rebuilt and widened and extended to accommodate the large plastic home depot style heavy duty box behind the propane tanks. Or would it be wiser to have my truck hitch extended and a cargo rack mounted to the extension by welding?Thus removing the cargo bin when I needed to access the tail gate to get to the covered bed of my truck? Which option would work and are either feasible and if so which is safer for driving? Thanks so much for you wisdom.

Mounting any sort of cargo carrying accessory at the front of your trailer, or using a multi-purpose ball mount like the Curt # D-210 along with a hitch-mount cargo carrier will likely affect your turning clearance with your trailer. Also, any modifications to your existing equipment, or any custom-made items, could potentially have an unknown capacity. I do not recommend either of these options for safety reasons.

I suggest you add a roof rack to your Tacoma to allow use of a rack-mount cargo basket. This will avoid any potential interference with the trailer and will not place any additional burden on your hitch.
