Question:

Two questions, please: 1. Which size hitch works better/easier with the Swagman XC 2-Bike Rack Platform Style for 1-1/4inch and 2inch Trailer Hitches? 2. Will this work okay with a 2006 Volvo S40? Thanks!

Since the Swagman XC bike rack, # S64650, has a 1-1/4 inch shank but uses an adapter to fit a 2 inch, it would fit best in a 1-1/4 inch hitch. But it will fit both sizes. And the threaded hitch bolt will reduce a lot of the movement of the rack.

Based on the hitch placement on the 2006 Volvo S40 the rack would be tight to the back of the vehicle but it should clear the bumper. A similar rack, the Trail Rider, # HR200Z, would give you a couple more inches of clearance.

There are only Class I trailer hitches available for he Volvo S40. The XC and Trail Rider are compatible with Class I hitches.
