Will Andersen WDH Work with 2026 NuCamp Tab 400 Black Canyon?

Updated 10/07/2026 | Published 09/30/2026

Question:

I am in the process of buying a nucamp Tab 400 Black Canyon model, 2026, what has the XL diamond Storage tub mounted on the front A frame. My tow vehicle is a 2024 Toyota Landcruiser, so the need for a Weight Distribution System may not be needed since my tow capacity is 6000ib and tongue weight limit is 600 lbs. BUT if I want to stabilize things I would like to order an ANDERSON WDH...ISSUE is that the tub is only 21inch from the center of the coupler to the edge of the tub...So I cant meet the Anderson 25inch minimum...but I could go past the front of the tub and install the brackets at the back edge of the tub. Has etrailer ever worked with someone who has the same issue with the tub upfront. Thank you

Hey Tim!

That's an awesome setup you've got pictured! Looking at the A-frame on your TAB 400 Black Canyon, the storage tub takes up the normal bracket location, but you do have exposed frame behind the tub where the Andersen brackets could potentially be mounted.

Andersen normally wants the frame brackets around 28"-29" back from the hitch ball, but they allow the chains to be lengthened equally when something on the trailer tongue prevents the brackets from being installed in the standard location. In your case, I would look at mounting the brackets behind the storage tub rather than trying to fit them within that 21" space in front of it.

The main thing I would want to verify before ordering is the distance from the center of the coupler ball to a clear mounting point on the frame behind the tub. We would also want to make sure the brackets can sit flat against the frame without interfering with the tub, wiring, or anything mounted underneath.

One other thing to keep in mind is that your Land Cruiser's 6,000-lb tow rating doesn't necessarily eliminate the benefit of sway control. The TAB 400 is light enough that you may not need a weight distribution system strictly for carrying capacity, but an Andersen setup could still be useful for sway control and keeping the combination more settled.

If you can give me the measurement from the center of the coupler back to the exposed frame directly behind the storage tub, I can get a much better idea of whether the Andersen setup will work there.
I think that is safer than telling him outright that it will fit, because the photo shows a promising location, but we still need that coupler-to-bracket measurement before confirming it.

Thank you Jerry...I don't take delivery until next Tuesday, so I will get that measurement then and reply back to you. Also, in doing some research, it appears that another brand has been mentioned as possibly work on the Tab 400... Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - No Shank - Round - 10,000 lbs GTW. 1,000 lbs TW (which I looked at on your website) It was mentioned that it could work in the 20-25 inch range, so it could be setup in front of the tub...just another option to look that. Thank you for your input and technical expertise...etrailer really does a great job on customer service Tim Elliott

@TimE Absolutely, and I think the Fastway e2 is worth keeping on the list as another option. The round-bar Fastway e2 does allow the frame brackets to be positioned closer to the coupler than a lot of other weight distribution systems, so that may make it a better fit for the limited space in front of the storage tub on your TAB 400. Once you take delivery and can get that measurement, we can compare the available mounting space to both the Andersen and Fastway requirements and see which setup makes the most sense. One thing I would be careful with is the 10,000-lb/1,000-lb tongue weight version. Your TAB 400 is much lighter than that, so I would want to size the system around your actual loaded tongue weight rather than simply using the highest-capacity e2 available. An oversized system can make the ride unnecessarily stiff. When you get the trailer Tuesday, send me that coupler-to-tub measurement and, if possible, your expected loaded tongue weight, and I’ll help narrow down the best option. And thank you for the kind words! We really appreciate it!

Jerry, I was able to look at the trailer today for the Tab 400. I took a measurement from the center of the coupler to an area behind the large tub...That puts us at 49 to 52 inches...Can the Anderson WDH work and still be effective at that length?

@TimE Thanks for getting that measurement. I went back through Andersen's current installation manual, and your 49"-52" bracket location behind the tub does not automatically rule the Andersen system out. Andersen doesn't actually specify one fixed distance from the coupler for the frame brackets. Instead, they have you pull the chains tight to determine the natural bracket location. If something like your storage tub is in the way, Andersen specifically says you can add as many chain links as needed to move the brackets farther back, with no adverse effect, as long as the same number of links is added to both sides. They also offer chain extensions for this purpose. So based on Andersen's instructions, mounting the brackets behind the tub at that 49"-52" area looks like a viable route. We'd still want to make sure there is enough clear frame there for the brackets and that there aren't any brake lines, gas lines, wiring, or other components interfering with the installation. I’d be comfortable moving forward with the Andersen as an option based on what you've measured.
