Do I Need To Convert 4 Way To 7 Way Round Connector To Use Prodigy Brake Controller On 2002 Tundra?
Updated 09/29/2026 | Published 09/28/2026 >
Question:
2002 Toyota Tundra with factory towing Pkg. 4-Pin only I purchased a Prodigy P-3 brake controller from etrailer. just now installing. Is an additional harness/converter needed for a 7-flat pin application? or just the additional wires? Also, I installed a cheapinch 7-flat pin receptacle with 4-pin auxiliary connection, which works but not a secure connection. Please recommend a high quality replacement receptacle.

Hey Billy, hope your day is going well.
Yes, you'll need to convert the 4 way flat to a 7 way round so that it can work with a trailer that has electric brakes. It wires up to the brake controller as well that you have installed. I'd use our in-house kit, part # ETBC7. This includes the 7 way (Still retains 4 way as well), and all wiring and connections necessary for installation.
It is actually really easy to wire it up. Just run the white wire to bare metal ground of the vehicle, run the blue wire up to the brake controller's blue output wire, run the black wire to positive terminal of your battery for 12v power, then plug the 4 way flat into it. That's it! I've attached a detailed installation video where we install it on a Tundra like yours.
What do you plan on towing with the truck and 7 way setup?
