Can I Replace a Curt Turning Point with a Gen-Y Kingpin Pin Box?

Updated 09/26/2026 | Published 09/23/2026

Question:

Lippert has indicated that since I have a Curt Turning Point Hitch installed on a 2024 Reflectiom, 150 Series 226RK I cannot swap it for any Gen Y Kingpin Hitch. Is this correct? 9995GCWR. 1850 Pin Weight. Thank You

Hey Tim, thanks for reaching out. Lippert is basically correct if you mean a Gen-Y kingpin-style Executive pin box. The Curt Turning Point uses its own unique bolt pattern, and Gen-Y does not make a kingpin Executive model for the Turning Point pattern. Their current fit chart only shows gooseneck-style Gen-Y replacements for the Turning Point, like the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY48GR.

So, if you want to stay with a traditional 5th wheel kingpin, there is not a Gen-Y option that directly replaces the Turning Point. If you are open to converting to a gooseneck ball connection, Gen-Y does make a direct Turning Point-pattern replacement.

Were you wanting to stick with a traditional 5th wheel kingpin, or were you looking at a gooseneck pin box?

Thank you for your response. I honestly do not currently know the difference between a wanting to stick with a traditional 5th wheel kingpin, or were you looking at a gooseneck pin box. So I am not sure. Could you please share the differences?

@TimR The big advantage of switching to a gooseneck pin box is that you get full bed access. All you need in the bed is a gooseneck ball and safety chain connections. No more heavy, bulky 5th wheel hitch to deal with. With a standard pin box, we can upgrade it to a shock absorbing pin box, but you'll still need a 5th wheel hitch in your bed. What truck are you hauling with? Does it have 5th wheel rails in the bed already? Or does it have factory 5th wheel prep?

I have a 2018 Ram 3500 Diesel It is factory equipped for 5th Wheel & Gooseneck. I am thinking of moving away from the current 5th wheel hitch to Gooseneck. But only if it can install a cushion Gooseneck.

@Tim Yes, you can absolutely do a cushioned gooseneck. The Gen-Y # GY48GR is what you'll need. You'll also need the B&W gooseneck kit # BWGNXA2062. This comes with a ball and safety chain loops for the Ram factory puck system.

I was wanting to swap from my current Kingpin to a Gooseneck. I want to go away from the Kingpin hitch in the truck bed. Thanks

@TimR Ok awesome that's a good call. The Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY48GR is exactly what you'll need then. It will fit the turning point bolt pattern and is properly rated based on your GVWR. These Gen-Y gooseboxes are very solid. They do a great job absorbing shock and are just super durable and well-made. I think you'll be very happy with it.

The reason they say it will not work is because changing out the pin box to anything else will void the frame warrenty on the trailer.

@AdamA Yes that is true, but people make that swap all the time without issue. If anything, a cushioned pin box like the Gen-Y will put less stress on the frame than a regular standard pin box. This question actually comes up a lot and I've talked directly with the folks at Gen-Y about it. They said they have never seen a single frame issue after having a customer swap to one of their pin boxes. Also, typically frame warranties are only a few years, so depending on your warranty you may be outside of that window already anyway. I would not hesitate to make that swap if it were my camper.

@JesseM I understand. I did make the swap. I am running a GEN-Y in place of my turnpoint king pin. Like all things it is a personal decision. The only thing I have had to do after 20k miles of use is double check the mounting bolts to ensure they are still tight.
