Aluminum E-Track on an Aluminum Trailer

Question:

What’s your opinion on aluminum e-tracks? I was thinking of welding aluminum e-tracks to aluminum deck of my trailer to haul my SXS.

Hey Bill!

Aluminum E-track can be a good option on an aluminum trailer, especially since you won’t have to worry about dissimilar-metal corrosion like you could with steel track. Welding it directly to the aluminum deck can also give you a really clean installation.

The main thing I’d keep in mind is that aluminum E-track generally isn’t going to be as strong as comparable steel track, so I’d want to make sure the track and the welds are rated appropriately for the weight of your SXS and the forces it can put on the tie-down points while traveling. I’d also recommend having the welding done by someone experienced with aluminum trailer construction so you don’t weaken or distort the deck.

Are you planning to use the E-track mainly for wheel chocks/straps, or will it be your primary tie-down point for the SXS?
