Question:

Hi, I have a 2016 Jayco 1007ud. Can I replace the factor stabilizer jacks with leveling scissor jacks? First pop up and like the idea of using the jacks for stabilizing and leveling.

Hey Tom!

Yes, you can replace the factory stabilizer jacks on your 2016 Jayco 1007UD with scissor jacks, as long as you have a solid mounting location on the trailer frame and enough clearance for the jacks when they’re fully retracted.

One important thing to keep in mind is that scissor jacks are primarily designed to stabilize the camper, not lift or level the entire trailer. For side-to-side leveling, you’ll still want to level the camper at the wheels with leveling blocks before unhitching. Once you’re level, you can use the tongue jack to level it front-to-back, then lower the scissor jacks to take out the movement and keep the camper steady.

Since this is your first pop-up, that method will also help keep you from putting too much stress on the frame while setting up. If you can tell me how much clearance you have from the frame to the ground where your current stabilizers mount, I can help you pick out the right size scissor jacks.
