Bike Rack for VW ID.4 That Won't Set Off Rear Sensors

Updated 09/02/2026 | Published 08/29/2026

Question:

Would you happen to have any hitch bike rack suggestions for a VW id.4 that does not have the AWD trailed wiring connections to override the maneuvering alarms and camera backward viewing alarms? I tried a Kuat transfer v2 and that still set off alarms. Current thinking is to get a Thule OutPace and take it off frequently. Maybe youve helped someone find the perfect solution. Great website and service thank you.

Hi Rod! Even without the trailer package you should be able to disable the alarms and sensors. The only downside is you will have to manually do this every time you start the car, there is really no way around it.

The Thule OutPace # TH39SA is a little lighter and easier to transport so that is a solution if you plan on removing the bike rack when not in use. However, I don't think there are any bike racks that can remain on the vehicle and not be picked up by the sensors.

What kind of bikes are you carrying?
