Question:
Looking for guidance on a weight distribution hitch for a 2017 Winnebago Minnie travel trailer. Hitch Dry Weight: 575 lbs. Trailer Dry Weight: 4500 lbs. Trailer GVWR: 7000 lbs. Would I be better off with a WDH rated at 600-800 lbs Tongue Weight, or one rated at 800-1000? Thank you.

Hey Richard, thanks for reaching out. I recommend going with the 800-1,000 lb tongue weight range for your 2017 Winnebago Minnie. Here is what I recommend:
- Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW # EQ37100ET
The key number for sizing a weight distribution hitch is the loaded tongue weight, not the 575 lb dry hitch weight. Once you add propane, batteries, water, camping gear, and cargo, that 575 lb dry number is going to increase quite a bit.
With a 7,000 lb GVWR, your Minnie can realistically end up around 700-1,000 lbs of tongue weight, depending on how heavily you load it and where that weight sits. Even at 6,000 lbs loaded, a 13% tongue weight puts you around 780 lbs, which already has you right at the upper end of a 600-800 lb system.
The # EQ37100ET system is made for trailers with a tongue weight between 600 and 1,000 lbs, so you will be right within that range. This means you will get the best results out of your WD hitch. Your ride will be more level, and sway will be significantly reduced. The equalizer systems are widely regarded as one of the best on the market, so I think you will be very happy with the results. They are fairly easy to set up too.
What do you usually carry up front on the Minnie? Propane, bikes, tools, generator?

I went with the 1000 pound Equalizer. Really helped with trailer control and sway. I do not find connecting the tension bars much of a problem. Be aware that the hitch and ball mount is heavy and if it needs to come on and off frequently you may want a hand cart to carry it. Overall I am happy with the Equalizer.
