Can I Bypass a Left Front Jack Fault on My Lippert Ground Control 3.0? How to Deter Mice?

Question:

I’m trying to trouble shoot my Lippert ground control 3.0. Mice had ate through the wiring from the control pad to the leveling module. I replace the harness and the module. It powers up and everything works except it reads jack fault on left front. The jack moves about an inch then faults out. On the menu that shows jack stroke the left front isn’t registering anything. Do you have instructions on trouble shooting the sensor in the jack to see if it is bad. Can I bypass this some how and run it manually? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Larry

Thanks for writing in, sorry for the headache!

It sounds like you have a Lippert Ground Control 3.0 system like the 4-point # LC358590, but I don't want to assume that is your exact system without seeing the part number from your original control module or knowing whether you have a 4-point or 6-point setup.

The fact that your left front jack moves about an inch but shows no movement on the jack stroke screen is a really helpful clue. On the Ground Control 3.0, a left front jack fault can indicate a problem with the jack, a Hall signal issue such as an open or short, or an unexpected high-amperage stall. Since your jack is moving but the system isn't registering the movement, I would start by checking the Hall sensor wiring and connections for that left front jack.

Since you already had mouse damage to the wiring, I would go over that new harness and the connections at both the jack and control module really well. You can also swap the left and right front jack connections at the control module as a troubleshooting step to help determine whether the fault follows the connection or stays with the physical left front jack.

I would not bypass the sensor and continue using the leveling system normally. If you need to move the jack while troubleshooting, the Ground Control 3.0 does have a manual override so you can mechanically extend or retract the jack. Once the problem is corrected, the jacks can also be rehomed by extending them at least 6" and then holding retract until they fully retract.

Also, I'm not sure where you keep your camper, but since the mice have already caused you this much of a headache, you may want to look at the MouseBlocker 360x Electronic Rodent Deterrent # MB64FR. If you have access to power where the camper is stored, you can plug it in and place it underneath the camper. It sends ultrasonic sound out in all directions to help deter rodents from settling in around your camper. After having to replace a harness and control module once, I would definitely want to do what I could to keep those little guys from coming back for round two.
