Question:

Can I use the cargo box wth the Malone trailer and still tow two kayaks using the Malone wings

Hey Carol! If you're wanting to use the Trailer Storage Trunk # MPG481 with the LowBed MicroSport like # MPG464-LB the two are not compatible. If you use the standard MicroSport Trailer # MPG460G you will be able to use the cargo box and still mount your kayaks using the Malone kayak carriers. See the attached picture.

Do you already have the trailer? What kind of kayaks are you carrying?

I have found that the trunk is more useful to me NOT on the trailer. I couldnt get into it while the kayaks were on it, and it is too cumbersome to lock snd unlock. Ive just been wheeling it around and putting it in my van instead. If youre using to go on a ling drive, probably be more agreeable. I liked the IDEA of it but am sort of not impressed.

@StacyL I use mine on the trailer. I usually have 2 kayaks in saddles on the crossbars. I can click each latch open to slide the top off, just under the kayaks.... doable but yes it's a close fit. Usually though I take one or both boats off first at the launch before I get into the trunk for the gear so access is easy. The one improvement i would like to see is a larger trunk that would allow 2 piece sea kayak paddles. All my basic gear fits except paddles.

@Kathy thanks for sharing your experience with it! It definitely seems like this is going to come down to how you use the trailer and what you're wanting to keep in the trunk.

@StacyL thanks for following up and sharing! I can see where it wouldn't be the best fit if you need to frequently access gear inside the trunk, so that is definitely something to consider for anyone looking to pick one up.
