I am looking for new steps for my 5 th wheel to make it easier to open and close. What are the pros and cons between MORryde strut assist vs lippert solid step

Hello Bob,

I see you have been ordering since 2020, thanks for finally finding a reason to write into us.

Both are great upgrades if you're looking for a more solid set of steps for your 5th wheel, but since you specifically mentioned wanting something that's easier to open and close, I would lean toward the MORryde StepAbove with Strut Assist # MR85RR.

The biggest advantage of # MR85RR is the built-in gas strut assist. The struts help support the weight of the steps as you're raising and lowering them, so MORryde describes them as being easy enough to lift and lower with one finger. Once they're down, the independently adjustable legs contact the ground to give you a stable, wobble-free entrance. This model has a 500 lb capacity and fits doorway widths of 27-3/4" to 28-1/4" with an entry height of 36-1/2" to 42-1/2".

The Lippert SolidStep # LC791574 is another really solid option and also uses adjustable legs that contact the ground for added stability. It has a 400 lb capacity and fits a somewhat wider range of doorway widths, from 25" to 28-7/8", with an entry height of 35" to 44". The main difference for what you're trying to accomplish is that # LC791574 does not have the built-in strut assist of the MORryde steps, so you'll be manually lifting and lowering the step assembly.

One limitation both styles share is that they fold up and store inside the RV doorway. That keeps them protected while you're traveling, but you do need enough room in front of the camper to fully lower the steps when you want to get inside. This is something to keep in mind if you frequently park your 5th wheel in tight storage areas.

Before ordering either one, we'll want to make sure it actually fits your 5th wheel. If you can measure the width of your doorway from inside flange to inside flange and the entry height from the ground to the threshold, I can help you verify which one is the right fit. I attached a couple of images showing exactly where to measure, please comment the measurements below.

The MORryde are much easier to open and close. The Lippert steps are a little wider and very nice as well - but they are heavy to lift and put away - the MORryde and be lifted and stowed with one arm/hand easily.

It was a great choice for us. We were fighting to raise and lower the steps. The steps will hold the position to adjust the steps. Easy for 2 people to change old steps. Your biggest problem was trying to figure out how to sell the old ones. It would be nice to have a trade in program.......Changing the steps was the second thing we did we did. First was the mattress.

The MorRyde step above steps have helped with set up and tear down. They are definitely easier to use than the original steps that did not have strut assist. We were able to sell our old ones on FB Marketplace. When new the steps would hold position, however over the course of two years they stopped holding themselves up. We recently went to MorRyde and had the struts replaced, this only lasted a month before they stopped holding the weight. They still make putting the in and out easier. Because of the strut there is no easy way to remove them to get in the door if you are in a tight space. You need at least 4’ beside your trailer to pull them down. Overall we buy these again, as they are much easier to use.

We definitely understand the frustration with the struts no longer holding the steps up, especially after having them replaced. We installed the Mor-Ryde steps with the struts assist. They are very easy to take down and put up. They fit wonderfully in our doorway of our Solitude ! Top notch !!

Easy install. You will need two people, not that they’re heavy, just a little awkward. Easy one hand operation and easily adjustable. Very stable. No negatives on this one.
