How Do I Tell if I Need a Left-Hand or Right-Hand Philips RV Screen Door Latch?

Updated 07/15/2026 | Published 07/12/2026

Question:

Hello, I need a new screen door latch for my travel trailer but cant tell if I need a left hand or right hand latch with the Philips door latch. If I am outside the trailer, the door latch is on the left side and the hinge on the right side. The pictures on your website are confusing because both products show pictures of left and right hand latches. Thanks, Jeff

Hello Jeff,

That is a great question, and I agree the photos can make it a little confusing, especially since a left hand one is in the installed pictures, going to get that fixed.

For Philips-style screen door latches, the left-hand and right-hand designation is based on looking at the screen door from inside the trailer, not from the outside.

Based on your description, when you're outside the trailer the latch is on the left and the hinges are on the right. That means when you're inside the trailer, the hinges will be on the left, so you will need the Right-Hand Door Latch for Philips RV Screen Doors # 37211205.

If you look at the attached image, if will face that way on the inside of the camper.

Getting things geared up for the next great adventure? Where are you headed to next?
