Can You Use a Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution Hitch on a 2025 Ford Bronco Sport?

Updated 07/09/2026 | Published 07/05/2026

Question:

Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control for 2inch Hitch - 3.5K GTW, 350 lbs TW Can this be used on a 2025 Ford Bronco Sport Big Bend with the diamond class 2 tow package? Seems to be conflicting statements out on the web. I bought a small camping trailer loaded is about 1600 to 1750 pounds not more. They recommended and installed this one and said it would be good. I am sure one was probably not needed - but safer is better. I asked about a friction sway bar but they recommended this one. i have read favorble things on having it as safer, smother etc while others laugh and say not needed, and or maybe not recomended for this bronco. We did drive 800 miles with it and it was a smooth ride. Just wondering if this was an oversell, it is ok, or it is not good for the vehicle. What would you recommend? Not a problem to continue with it. thank you

Hi David, thanks for such a thoughtful question. I'm glad you shared your experience because the fact that you've already towed about 800 miles and the trailer handled well is helpful. The Blue Ox SwayPro, part # BXW0350, is appropriately sized for your trailer's loaded weight, so I don't have any concerns about the hitch itself being too large for the trailer. The bigger question is whether Ford recommends using a weight distribution hitch on the Bronco Sport.

That's where things get a little unclear. Many unibody SUVs and crossovers are not designed for use with a weight distribution hitch because the spring bars transfer leverage into the vehicle's structure in a way that can place additional stress on a unibody. I reviewed the current Ford owner's information and towing guide, and while I couldn't find a statement specifically prohibiting a weight distribution hitch on the 2025 Bronco Sport, I also couldn't find Ford explicitly approving its use.

Because of that, my recommendation would be to check your owner's manual for any language about weight distribution hitches or contact your Ford dealer with your VIN to confirm Ford's position. If Ford says it's approved, I'd feel comfortable continuing to use the SwayPro since it's properly matched to your trailer. If Ford advises against it, I'd follow their recommendation, even though you've had a smooth towing experience so far.

I don't think you were necessarily oversold. The SwayPro is an excellent system, and many people appreciate the added stability and sway control it provides. The only question is whether your specific vehicle is intended to use that type of hitch, and that's something only Ford can definitively answer.

I'm curious, what kinds of trips do you enjoy taking with your Bronco Sport and your new camper?
