Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for a Flatbed w/a Recessed Gooseneck Ball.

Updated 11/01/2025 | Published 10/27/2025

Question:

I was told I need a special fifth wheel hitch for my 2015 Chev 3500HD because it has a flatbed, which is considerable higher than the regular bed. Need a 20k fifth wheel hitch to go over the recessed ball. TYIA

Hey Harlen. For a flatbed with a recessed goose ball, I recommend the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter for Recessed Ball item # DM8550046. This 5th wheel hitch has a 21,000 lbs and attaches directly to 2-5/16" gooseneck balls. It has a 22" x 22" base that sits around the recess well to support the hitch.

Please note that the top of the gooseneck ball must be 13/16" or closer to the top of the truck bed for the hitch to install.

What are the box dimensions of your recessed well and how close to the top of your bed is the top of the gooseneck ball?

You can add this information and any other questions you have where it says Reply to Jerred H and I'll be happy to answer them.

Thanks for the info, Jerred. The ball sits about 1/4" below the deck, so I should be golden. Seen those hitches at a reasonable price, also, not the $1500 I thought I would have to spend. One step closer to my second chapter. Keep up the good work. Harlen

@HarlenW You're welcome! Happy I could help! Just a heads up the Demco Recon item # DM8550046 won't work with rotating pin boxes like the Reese Sidewinder or Revolution.
