Question:
I’ve got a 2021 4x4 Mercedes Sprinter Campervan. We just purchased a 6x12 cargo trailer we’ll be using to tow four dirt bikes, fuel and gear totalling about 3400 lbs including the trailer weight. I’m wanting to know what is the best antisway weight distribution hitch or setup for this application? With my van being lifted 2” from the factory because of 4x4, plus and additional 2” lift I’m concerned about crosswinds etc driving across the country. Thanks for any assistance

Hi Ryan,
Welcome back!
For a weight distribution hitch for to use with your Mercedes Sprinter and cargo van I recommend using the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Hitch part # EQ37060ET. The B&W Continuum you were looking at is a great weight distribution hitch, but it is rated too highly for your set up. The B&W Continuum is rated for tongue weights from 600-1,600lbs while your tongue weight is only 340lbs. For a weight distribution hitch to be the most effective, you want to get one where your tongue weight falls right in the middle of its capacity. If your tongue weight is too light for the weight distribution hitch, the hitch won't be effective in stopping sway.
The Equal-i-zer weight distribution hitch part # EQ37060ET however, is rated for 200-600lbs of tongue weight, so your 340lb tongue weight falls perfectly in the middle. It will help evenly distribute the weight off your rear axle to reduce sag and uses a 4-point steel-on-steel built in sway control to stop your trailer from swaying before it starts. It also allows backing, so you can easily back your cargo trailer into the driveway or campground without having to disconnect the hitch. The shank for the Equal-i-zer hitch has a max rise of 7" and drop of 3" so you can adjust the height however you need to work with your set up.
Where are you planning on hauling your dirt bikes to?
