B&W 5th Wheel Hitch for 2020 Chevy Silverado Short Bed

Updated 06/29/2026 | Published 06/23/2026

Question:

I have a 5th wheel trailer that weighs 6,700lbs being towed by a 1 ton Silverado Duramax diesel. The trailer is already set up for a double haul. My boat that I want to haul is a 16 fiberglass bass boat, weighing appx with motor 2,000-2,500lbs. What BMW hitch do I need?

Hi Donald, thanks for providing the additional information below. If you have the prep package you will need the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package # BWRVK3775.

If your Andersen hitch was on industry standard rails then you can use the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # BWRVK3270 instead. Both are more than capable of handling the weights you provided.

I'm not sure what else you would need for the trailer, if the 5th wheel is set up for towing with a connection for lights that covers that. I'm assuming you have surge brakes on the boat trailer so you wouldn't need anything else for that trailer either.

If you have any other questions feel free to leave another comment and I'd be happy to help.

Truck is a 2020 Chevy Silverado short bed. Right now I am using an Anderson hitch- I was told by Anderson to not double haul with it. So I need to replace the system in the bed of the truck. And whatever I need for the trailer. Thanks Scott

@RobinH Sorry to bother you again, I am confused how these hitches connect to the 2020 Chevrolet. The Anderson hitch connected to a large ball that came out of center of the bed. There also 4 other holes in the truck bed that are covered with plastic plates that came stock. Also, what do I need for the 5th wheel trailer to connect to the hitch? Thanks for your patience.

@DonaldS The Companion has 4 pegs that mate up with the four holes. Each peg has a 90 degree swing arm that locks it in place, then you use the supplied cotter pin to lock them in.

Donald, I don't have any experience with double hauling but the guy from B&W has already answered that. My 5th wheel weighs 12,500 empty and the GVW of the 5th is almost 17,000. I think you will love the companion slider if you have the GM prep package. It's easy as pie to assemble the two sections (and to disassemble if needed). Separately, it's a two man job unless you have some serious grunt in which case you can do it alone. Best wishes
