Question:
Hi, I am interested in the Stromberg Carlson hitch part SC45MR to see if it will work on my fifth wheel. I plan on bolting it to the flange on the I beam frame using the included angle brackets. There is a 10 inch C channel bumper bolted to the frame. The angle brackets will but up against the C channel bumper. Can you tell me how far the hitch tube would extend past the end of the angle brackets so I know how far it will extend past the bumper. I would like to use a U bolt around the hitch tube just behind the flange on the end to bolt up to the flange on the C channel bumper for extra support. Is there room for the U bolt between the end flange and the hole for the hitch pin? Thanks

Hey Dusty, thanks for reaching out. I went out to our warehouse and grabbed one of the Stromberg Carlson Adjustable Accessory Hitch Receivers # SC45MR to grab the measurements you asked for.
The end of the hitch tube will extend out past the angle brackets by approximately 2".
As far as fitting a U-bolt between the safety chain loops and hitch pin hole, I don't think that's happening. The safety chain flange extends just past the edge of the pin hole, so there would be no way to fit a U-bolt between those. I snapped a picture from the side showing how close they are. If you want to add a U-bolt, you'd have to modify the safety chain loops, that or put one rearward of the hitch pin hole.
What were you planning on using the hitch for?

Hitch is adjustable easy to install felt like it would be fine just bolted, but since I installed on a drop rear 5th wheel had it spot welded also.

Dusty We purchased the hitch I had it welded onto the frame of our travel trailer Excellent & decent product. I just went cross country over 6,000 miles with our bike rack on the hitch and had no issues
