Looking to Replace a Screen Door Gas Shock 448847 0050n 173/18 B3

Question:

I need to replace the gas shock for the screen door for a 2019 Leisure Travel Van Unity. The existing one has the numbers: 448847 0050n 173/18 B3 Is that replaced by the one you show in your search for that year LTV?. Thank you.

Happy to help Ross, thanks for reaching out!

The numbers on your current gas shock indicate a force rating of 50 Newtons, which is about 11 lbs of force.

The JR Products Gas Shock # 372-5300-20 we carry is rated for 20 lbs of force, so it is much stronger than the shock you currently have.

Gas shocks should match the length and the force rating of the original part. The 20 lb shock would provide significantly more resistance and assistance than the original. The screen door may open more forcefully, require more effort to close, and place additional stress on the door, hinges, and mounting brackets.

How is the current shock performing compared to what you'd like it to do?

Thank you. The current shock was performing just fine, but unfortunately, a strong wind caught the door, and the end broke off. Hence, the need for replacement. Do you have an equivalent shock? Thanks.

@RossC ahhh ok, sorry to hear that happened. The closest match would be # RD82RR , it is 20 inches long and rated for 10 lbs of force. As long as your current strut has 10 mm ball sockets on both ends and the extended length match, it should work as a replacement.

@JamesD Thanks - that looks right. I emailed LTV to see if they can guide me, so I will wait a bit for a reply. I saved the info on this strut and will likely order it soon. Thanks very much for your help. Ross
