What's the Best Rodent Deterrent Option For an Open Storage Area?

Updated 06/19/2026 | Published 06/12/2026

Question:

I have an 18foot bass boat and when not in use it is stored in a covered parking RV/Boat storage facility. I do keep a heavy custom fit boat cover on it when in storage. There are gaps between the cover and the boat on each side of the motor. Is the MouseBlocker PROx Plug In Electronic Rodent Deterrent - 110V AC Part Number: MB34FR the best option or is another model better? Where should the unit be placed, on the deck toward the back near the motor close to the cover gap? Thank you.

Hey Scott!

The best option that you can get for rodent deterrent is MouseBlocker 360x Electronic Rodent Deterrent - 110V AC # MB64FR, although all of the MouseBlocker systems including # MB34FR are really designed for indoor use. The 360x plugs into a 110V outlet, sits on the floor, and works to push rodents out and prevent them from moving in using sound that isn't audible to humans. It also has LED strobe lights that can be switched on to dissuade any fuzzy friends that weren't deterred by the sound to get too comfortable.

The # MB34FR also has the audio frequency and LED strobes, but sits in an enclosed area, such as a vehicle's engine compartment. The form factor of the #MB34FR is much smaller and more contained, so I don't recommend that one for open-area use and instead would recommend the # MB64FR in an area without walls or an enclosure.

Are there any specific animals you're looking to avoid, or is it just all potential pests in general?

I bought two units last summer and one of them has stopped working. Caught two mice this week in the belly of the trailer where the broken one was located. Seems to work while the function correctly. Disappointed one quite working.

I use one on my 23’ formula. I had been getting mice chewing on various things on board while it is stored in my yard. The mouse blocker has successfully put an end to any mouse activity. I don’t think exact placement is critical but maybe you can try moving it if you have trouble. I have a cuddly and the back is more open. The boat is always covered and I live in a heavily wooded area so critters are always around. I have not seen any sign of anything unwanted singing plugged in the blocker.

@ScottN Thanks for the feedback Scott! I'm glad to hear it's working out for you. Which model of Mouse Blocker do you have on your boat? How many did you install?
