Recommended Hitch for a 2012 Ford F-150 w/a Factory Hitch

Updated 06/14/2026 | Published 06/11/2026

Question:

Can I put a curt hitch model C14002 on my 2012 ford f150 fx4 with a 5.0? It’s a super crew full 4 door with 5.5ft bed. The factory hitch model CL3Z 19D520A has a hole in it from rusting out. I need to replace the hitch immediately. I’ve been towing a 7000lb camper, but would like to up the capacity a little bit. Would the curt hitch bolt right up?

No, you can not Shaun but I have a solution that'll get you back up and running. For a 2012 Ford F-150 with a factory hitch, you'll need the TorkLift SuperHitch Hero Trailer Hitch item # TLF1005H. This class IV hitch with a 2" receiver will install below your factory one. It has a 8,000 lbs towing capacity.

The factory hitch on your 2012 F-150 cannot be easily replaced because it is welded into the rear bumper brackets. The hitch is built into the bumper support so aftermarket hitches like the Curt C14002 are only designed for the F-150's that don't come from the factory with a hitch.

What kind of camper do you have?
