Are Replacement Bevel Gear Parts Available For Older 90's Atwood Landing Gear Jack On RV?

Updated 06/08/2026 | Published 05/29/2026

Question:

I have an Atwood landing gear built in 1996 that needs new bevel gears. Is there replacement kits available to rebuild it. The stamp on the outer tube lists bulletins 71125 or 70802. Please tell me if it can be rebuilt

Good morning Kent.

Your best bet is to replace the whole landing gear setup at this point, because Atwood hasn't made landing gear in quite some time and therefore parts are really hard to find. We don't have any bevel gears confirmed to fit, so we'd be guessing on those gear parts at this point unfortunately. The only thing we have confirmed to fit the Atwood landing gear setups is the gearbox itself which is part # LG-179015.

I recommend going with a new setup. If you can get me some info on the system or send photos to the email you get this response from, I can help you out. Usually something like the Stromberg Carlson Electric Landing Gear Set - Weld On # LG-1 is a good fit, but it depends on your setup. You'll need to measure where the weld stops are behind the mounting bracket on the landing gear outer tube. If the outside of the top weld stop to the outside of the bottom weld stop measures 17-1/2", the # LG-1 will fit. If you get the other common size, 21-1/2", you need # LG-2 instead. Normally you can reuse the brackets instead of cutting them off and welding on new ones.

Let me know what you come up with, and again I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news on the lack of gear parts available.

Hey Kent, We swapped out the whole system in our Grand Design one peice at a time until I figured out what was the weak point. It was a fairly simple process just time consuming and tight quarters. etrailer is definitely the way to go for you parts, and the shipping was super fast.
